1941 Mercury 8, Club Convertible Coupe

Model Year History Overview:
The Mercury was developed by Henry Ford’s son, Edsel.  The first Mercury was announced in 1938 as a ’39 model. First year sales were around 75,000 and the following year sales of the 1940 Mercury were brisk.  In 1941 Mercury looked for greater success with its totally restyled line.  Seven different models were offered, including a 2/4 – passenger coupe, business coupe and station wagon.  Styling again was in the Ford mold. Longer, higher, squared-off fenders were accompanied by a divider-bar grille and fender-mounted parking lights. Mercury quickly gained a reputation for performance equal to its name.  Well-tuned models in stock form were quicker than the Ford 85 HP V-8 and were usually capable of turning close to 100 mph.
