1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V Model Year History Overview: This 1979 Lincoln Continental Make V is number five in the series of eight Continental Marks that Ford produced. Continental began in 1938 as a dream car for Edsel Ford. Edsel directed the stylist, Bob Gregorie to make it “thoroughly continental,” complete with outside spare tire–hence the name. Originally, this new Lincoln was a one-off custom for Edsel. But, everyone who saw it thought it was sensational. A year later the 1940 Lincoln-Zephyr Continental was on sale in Lincoln showrooms. A coupe and cabriolet were offered at about $2,850.00. Continental became a separate model in 1941 and the last one produced was in 1948. It emerged again in 1956-58 as Continental Mark II and again re-appeared in 1968 as a Mark III. The Continental Mark series continued unbroken until 1998 when it ended with the Mark VIII. This is a 1979 Lincoln Mark V Collector’s Series 2-door coupe with less than 8,000 miles. It has the original leather and carpet interior with wood grain accents.
