1949 Plymouth Special Deluxe Model Year History Overview: The “second series” 1949 Plymouth introduced in the spring of 1949 was Chrysler Corporation’s first serious styling change for Plymouth after WWII. Styling up to this point was a carry-over from pre-WWII. In fact, the early “first series” 1949 Plymouths were ‘48’s continuing as 1949s. The “new” 1949 styling was what the designers called “three-box styling—one box on top of two others.” They said “Cars should accommodate people rather than the ideas of far-out designers.” This attitude hurt Plymouth in the long run because people were willing to put up with cramped headroom and low ground clearance for the long, low look. In 1949 it was a seller’s market and it didn’t matter much what cars looked like. Vehicle Mileage: 23,937 miles (Original) Total 1949 Plymouth Car Production; 522,385 Stock Number C 141
