1956 Chevrolet Bel Air Model Year History Overview: Chevrolet had a mild facelift in ’56 and another in ’57. Both Ford and Plymouth were completely restyled in ’57, so Chevrolet suffered by comparison. Yet record market penetration of close to 28 percent was achieved in 1956 and the ’57 facelift was a good one. The 1955 eggcrate grill was unpopular with the public, so the ’56 version was broader, brighter, and more conventional. The 265 cid V-8 engine had to match the looks. Properly equipped, the 1955-57 Chevy was, and is, a formidable competitor on the race track. This car was restored in 1999 with a body on frame restoration process, including engine and transmission. It has the original fender skirts and a new plush interior. Total 1956 Chevrolet Car Production: 1,563,729 MSRP: $2,176.00 Stock Number C 164 |
