1989 Ford F-150 XLT Lariat Model Year History Overview: There were only a handful of changes to the 1989 Ford F-150. Most of them were mechanical. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the F-Series, the 1987 F-Series models sported completely revised styling on the platform that Ford introduced in 1980. For the first time since 1952, the F-Series had rounded wheel well openings. Also new were aerodynamic flush-mounted headlight lenses with easily removable halogen bulbs, replacing the sealed-beam type that dated back to 1940. The biggest hype in 1987 was for the all new rear wheel antilock braking system (ABS). Ford was first to offer ABS on a pickup truck in North America. The system was installed on every F-Series truck as standard equipment. All F-Series also now had power steering and power brakes as standard equipment. This is a one-owner vehicle. It was formerly owned by Bill Wages, an executive with A.E.R. Manufacturing of Dallas, Texas, who took immaculate care of this truck.
