1958 Thunderbird Convertible History Overview: The big four-seater “Square Bird” as it is called was first introduced in 1958. It was a dramatic design with unibody construction, all coil suspension, and rakish lowness. Crisp new styling popularized the square-cut “formal” hardtop roofline. The 113 inch wheelbase was compact, yet provided ample interior room for four. Both the hardtop and convertible models were offered. With two models and room for four, it was a solid success. Almost twice as many found buyers as any of the previous two-seaters. The ‘59’s changed in detail; a horizontal grille instead of honeycomb, air scoop, taillight panels among other smaller items. Owing to production over a full a full year, the ‘59 bested the ’58 in sales. Originally Sold to: N/A
