2000 Chevrolet Corvette Hardtop History Overview: The first Chevrolet Corvette began life in 1953. Corvette was America’s first and only successful fiberglass sports car. It was the brain-child of the famed GM designer Harley Earl. Corvette almost died in 1955 due to disappointing sales. The Thunderbird out-sold Corvette 3 to 1 during the 1955-57 period. Corvette was fully redesigned in 1956 and continued basically unchanged through 1962. This was the official pace car for the 2000 Indianapolis 500 race. Originally Sold to: N/A Stock Number: C 217
