1962 Thunderbird Tri-Power Sport Roadster
“M-Bird”
History Overview:
This is a special “M-Series” Thunderbird indicating it is equipped with an optional 390 cid Sports V-8 340 horsepower engine with a modified aluminum intake manifold, a special camshaft, and three Holley 2-barrel carburetors with progressive linkage. Other features included dual exhaust with 2-inch diameter piping, higher volume oil pump, dual-point distributor, and a recalibrated valve body for the automatic transmission to handle the added torque.
The engine includes a package of chrome-plated parts as standard equipment: valve covers, oil filler cap and dipstick handle, radiator expansion tank, brake master cylinder cap, and power steering reservoir cover, and the remote-style canister used with air conditioning.
There were only 157 M-Series convertibles produced for 1962. (Only 41 are believed to still exist)
The “M” Code refers to the letter “M” in fifth position of the (VIN) number to identify the engine size.
Beginning in October 2005 this car underwent complete disassembly and placed on a rotisserie. All painted parts were completely stripped by sand blasting, bead blasting and/or chemical stripper to bare metal and painted with Raven Black base coat/clear coat paint. The engine and transmission were completely rebuilt. All major components have been replaced with new or rebuilt parts.
